Extrusion, obra de 2010, es la segunda tape del ciclo [d]espacio: serie acusmática con videoproyección sobre cuatro bodegas vanguardistas españolas. Música, videoarte y arquitectura compuesto por Ángel Arranz con visualizaciones de Beatriz del Saz. La pieza está inspirada en el edificio de Bodegas Marqués de Riscal – Ciudad del Vino, diseñado por Frank Gehry; está compuesta para 8 canales y fue estrenada en la Discussion Concert Series del Institute of Sonology de La Haya en 2010.

La versión que se ejecutará en Phonos será una versión octofónica sin video-proyección.

[d]espacio is a series of four acousmatic pieces with video projections by the composer Ángel Arranz and the visual artist Beatriz del Saz. The series is inpired on four Spanish avant-garde wineries; it was composed between 2009 and 2012: Electronic Study is based on Bodegas Protos by Sir Richard Rogers; Extrusion is based on Marqués de Riscal – Ciudad del Vino by Frank Gehry; S A H, on Bodegas Ysios by Santiago Calatrava, and finally, the last piece, De la luz y del espacio takes inspiration on Bodegas Qumrán by Hernández/Solís.

As the date of the concert gets closer, this last week, we will speak about De la luz y del espacio, the fourth piece of our acousmatic series with video projection. This is the last piece of the [d]espacio series,  and it has therefore a clear role: being the anti-rythm of all the rest.

The piece is based on two key concepts derived from the interiors of Bodega Qumrán´s building by Hernández/Solís: the first concept is light undergoing a very studied program, turning into constructive matter, such as glass and concrete,  thanks to its rich functionality. The second concept is the architectural program in its strict sense, which aims to fulfill the building´s practical requirements – those of a factory -, as well as the continuity of the main material – concrete -, which re-adapts its interior volumes, generating poliedric gestures, inviting the visitor to perceive rich acoustic spaces. This is so partly because of the resonating characteristics of the main material (concrete), and partly because of its volumetric characteristics.

The premiere of this piece took place last november in the South-Korean city of Busan. The premiere of [d]espacio in Salamanca, and its later performance in The Netherlands, will show the piece integrated in the series for the first time.

Va acercándose el día del concierto, y en nuestra última semana hablaremos de la cuarta pieza de nuestra serie acusmática con video proyecciones: De la luz y del espacio. Esta es la úlitma pieza de la serie [d]espacio, por lo tanto cumplía un rol claro, que es la de ser anti-ritmo de todo lo demás.

La pieza está basada en dos conceptos clave derivados de los interiores del edificio Bodegas Qumrán, por Hernández/Solís: el primero, la luz es tratada a través de un programa muy estudiado, cuya prolija funcionalidad hace que sea pensada prácticamente como un material constructivo, tales como el vidrio y el hormigón. Segundo, el programa arquitectónico en sentido estricto, que trata de cubrir tanto las necesidades prácticas del edificio, propias de una factoría, así como una continuidad del material principal -hormigón-, que en todo momento va readaptando sus volumetrías interiores generando a menudo gestos poliédricos, invita al visitante a la percepción de espacios acústicos muy prolijos. Ello es así en parte por las cualidades resonantes del material principal, el hormigón, y en parte también por sus características volumétricas.

Tuvo su estreno por separado el pasado noviembre en la ciudad de Busan, en Corea del Sur. El estreno de [d]espacio en Salamanca y posteriormente en Holanda será la primera vez que presentemos la pieza integrada en el ciclo.

Yisios combines the names of Isis and Osiris, the most important gods of the Egyptian mythology. Syblings and spouses, children and parents of gods, they represent the everlasting duality between the masculine and the feminine the opposite forces that drive Nature´s great wheel.

This duality has been the basis for the creation of the video for “SAH”, the third piece of the acoustic series [d]espacio, with music by Ángel Arranz.

This video by Beatriz del Saz replicates the visual structure of Bodegas Ysios´ façade, and has 3 straightforward, clearly differentiated parts. In this case, music and video evolve in a separate way, and the structure of one does not influence the structure of the other.

In the style of ancient Egyptian architecture, the video uses straight lines exclusively, which combines and develop in whimsical patterns. The colors remind of the desert landscapes of Egypt, of the white garments of the gods represented in the tombs mural paintings, of their extraordinary treasures, and naturally, of the red and rosé hues of wine: a beverage whose elaboration, as the legend goes, Osiris taught to mankind.

Ysios es una palabra que reúne los nombres de Isis y Osiris. Estas dos deidades fundamentales de la mitología egipcia, hermanos y esposos, hijos y padres de dioses, representan la eterna dualidad entre lo masculino y lo femenino, las fuerzas opuestas que hacen girar la gran rueda de la naturaleza. Esta dualidad ha sido la base utilizada para la creación del vídeo para “SAH”, la tercera pieza del ciclo acusmático [d]espacio, con música de Ángel Arranz.

Este vídeo de Beatriz del Saz imita la estructura visual de la fachada del edificio de Bodegas Ysios, obra de Santiago Calatrava, y consta de 3 partes sencillas y claramente diferenciadas. En este caso música y vídeo tienen cursos completamente diferentes, y la estructura de la una no influencia a la del otro.

Al estilo de la arquitectura egipcia antigua, en el vídeo se utilizan únicamente líneas rectas que evolucionan y se combinan en caprichosos diseños.  Los colores utilizados recuerdan a los paisajes desérticos egipcios, al blanco de los ropajes de los dioses representados en los murales de sus tumbas, al dorado de sus extraordinarios tesoros, y naturalmente, a los rojos y rosados del vino:  una bebida cuya elaboración (cuenta la leyenda) enseñó Osiris a la humanidad.
